Outlaw ATV Jamboree

As part of the John Wesley Powell 150th Celebration, join us on a an easy ATV ride on two-track and bladed trails through Sears and Crouse Canyons where Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid hid from the law. This trail is full of Old West history including mines, greed, jealousy, even murder, and betrayal. Stop at Jarvie Fest to celebrate the 150th anniversary of John Wesly Powell's River Expedition. They will have special speakers, food will be available for purchase, old-time demonstrations, and reenactments. We will be offering 2 start times for the ride on this day as we expect a large group for this special event.  Start Location Vernal Western Park

Echo Park Event

 John Wesley Powell notes in his journal that he arrived at the confluence of the Green and Yampa rivers on June 17, 1869. Visit Moffat County will be joining the National Park Service for a collection of hikes, talks and lunch in the place where "our words are repeated with startling clearness..." On Monday night, experience Echo Park at night during a full moon hike from 9-10:30 pm. Camping is available first-come, first served for $10 per site. On Tuesday, hike to the confluence from either 9:30-11:00 am or 1:30-3:00 pm. Enjoy a free lunch provided by Visit Moffat County. Don't miss the guest speaker from noon-1:00 pm: Raymond Sumner, a researcher and great-great-grandson of one of Powell's expedition members, Jack Sumner.

Guided Summer Day Trip hike to Harpers Corner in Dinosaur National Monument with park rangers and volunteers. Enjoy breathtaking views of the Green and Yampa Rivers, and learn about John Wesley Powell's adventures at Echo Park, Steamboat Rock, and Whirlpool Canyon. Meet at the Field House Museum with a full tank of gas at 9:00 am or at 5:30 pm. The morning hike departs from the Harpers Corner Trailhead at 10:45 am and the evening hike departs the trailhead at 7:15 pm.

3 - day festival celebrating the expedition of John Wesley Powell, whitewater rafting, and the arts in downtown Vernal. Activities include live music, speakers, craft beer garden, kayak and paddleboard demos, dutch oven cook off, bounce houses, art exhibits and marketplace.

Powell Legacy Rafting Trip at Split Mountain

150 years ago, John Wesley Powell led a group into the unexplored regions along the Green and Colorado Rivers. The expedition journeyed through the area now known as Uintah county, the birthplace of whitewater rafting. We will honor Powell's legacy by running the Split Mountain daily section of the Green River.
